Example #1 – Colonial Home style
This Colonial home had an old style brick fireplace with a long mantle – plenty of room for decorating. However overcrowding can create a cluttered affect like in the first image. Too many pictures and baskets were overkill and created a tacky appearance. With this kind of design the homeowner and guests focus on the clutter instead of what should be the real focal point – the fireplace. The first visit was during the summer months and the fireplace was given a clean simple look that put focus back on the fireplace. During the winter, Decorating Solutions was hired back to decorate the room for the holiday season. A large tall Christmas tree was placed by the fireplace to emphasize the high ceiling. It was decorated with elegant ornaments, ribbon and flower blossoms, and the fireplace accented with winter decorations, pine garland, Poinsettias and a wreath on the wall where the decorative fabric once was in the summer months.
Example #2 – Mountain Home style
The fireplace was the focal point of the Great Room in this Colorado mountain home. The original home did have a design that laid out the room around the fireplace, but design created a tight uncomfortable feeling and wasn’t conducive to entertaining. The redesign utilized a real sofa with chairs surrounding the area, while maintaining the fireplace as the focal point. A very large grape vine wreath was placed in the center of the fireplace to break up the vertical height and the mantle was decorated with beautiful rustic decorations. The fireplace base and surrounding area was also decorated with the mountain theme, but with the proper proportions to avoid a cluttered appearance.
